2014 Homecoming schedule of events announced

Update: Due to the inclement weather forecast, the 2014 Homecoming dance competition and concert featuring Matt and Kim on Sept. 21 will be moved inside to Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center with a new start time of 7:30 pm.

 

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Homecoming week will kick off Sunday, Sept. 21, with the annual dance competition and Homecoming concert, and will continue with events throughout the week leading up to the Homecoming football game on Sept. 27 against Northwestern, scheduled for noon.

Following is a list of events for alumni, students and all Penn Staters taking place in the days leading up to Homecoming weekend.

Dance Competition and Homecoming Concert, 6 p.m. Sept. 21, Outside HUB on Pollock Road: The Homecoming dance competition and concert aims to highlight student talent, as well as heighten excitement for the week ahead. This year’s performers will be Matt and Kim. This event is free and no tickets are required.

East Halls Celebration, 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 22, East Halls Quad/ Johnston Commons: East Halls Celebration is a great way to celebrate the beginning of Homecoming week, while involving this year’s freshmen in the excitement.

Past to Present Celebration, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23, HUB: Past to Present Celebration is a HUB event that centers on Penn State student’s history and their current successes. Students will find numerous activities, as well as a Penn State museum.   

For the Glory Talent Show, 7 p.m. Sept. 23, Eisenhower Auditorium: The For the Glory Talent Show is an opportunity for student organizations to show their creativity through performances. Competitors are encouraged to incorporate the Homecoming theme, and the top three point earners are invited to perform during THON 2015.

Best of Penn State, Field Day 2 p.m. Sept. 24; Carnival 3 to 7 p.m., Old Main Lawn: The Best of Penn State Carnival is a large celebration that takes place on Old Main lawn, which includes games, entertainment, food, Bell Tower Tours, and many other attractions that are free to students and community members.

Student-Alumni Ice Cream Social, 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 26, Hintz Family Alumni Center: The Student-Alumni Ice Cream Social helps boost student-alumni interaction and includes ice cream treats served with help of the Berkey Creamery. Prizes and performances are featured in the Hintz Family Alumni Center.

Homecoming Parade, 6 p.m. Sept. 26, University Park/State College: The Homecoming parade is an event that brings students, faculty, alumni, and members of the community together for a procession through the University Park campus and downtown State College. The streets come alive with students, alumni, and community floats and spectators celebrating the Penn State Homecoming tradition.

Student-Alumni Tailgate Competition, 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 27, Tailgating Grounds: The Homecoming football game will kick off with the Student-Alumni Tailgate Competition, occurring prior to the game at noon. Students and alumni will showcase their best tailgating traditions to compete for prizes that include best overall and best food, among other categories. Homecoming Football Game, noon Sept. 27, Beaver Stadium: Penn State will battle rival Northwestern at the final Homecoming event. The crowning of Homecoming King and Queen, as well as recognition of the Honorary Grand Marshal and Grand Marshal, will occur at halftime of the game.

All Homecoming events celebrate tradition and instill pride in all members of the Penn State community through active engagement of students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members.
