Penn State hosts national 'Big Ten and Friends' facility management workshop

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State’s Office of Physical Plant (OPP) is convening with representatives from more than 15 universities to discuss the challenges of Building Information Modeling for Facility Management (BIM for FM). In addition to Big Ten participants, the University is hosting Princeton, Tufts and Carnegie Mellon universities.

The two-day workshop is taking place Thursday, Aug. 14, and Friday, Aug. 15, at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. It is designed to identify the challenges universities face in the management of their facilities and to develop collaborative steps to move forward. Topics include energy auditing, virtual campus development and interactive space utilization for model review.

Penn State’s OPP is continually striving to learn about and utilize the most accurate, up to date and useful modeling techniques to improve the performance of the University’s buildings. “We’re interested in benchmarking success with BIM on higher education campuses,” said Steve Maruszewski, assistant vice president for OPP, “and we hope to set the stage for future annual meetings."

More information about the workshop can be found on the OPP website, and specific questions can be directed to Ed Gannon at or at 814-863-2176.
