WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Michael J. Reed has been appointed assistant dean of sciences, humanities and visual communications: liberal arts and sciences at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Reed comes to Penn College from the Williamsport Area School District, where he most recently served as head principal at Williamsport Area High School.
“Mike Reed is a welcome addition to the leadership of the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications,” said Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs/provost. “Mike has more than 20 years of experience in progressively more responsible positions. He consistently has built collaborative teams among his faculty to improve teaching and learning. He has excelled in every endeavor, and we look forward to him joining the Penn College family.”
Reed joins the leadership team of Clifford P. Coppersmith, dean, and Thomas C. Heffner, assistant dean: programs, in the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications. He succeeds Ed Owens, who is returning to his post as a longtime math faculty member at the college.
“Mike is an excellent addition to our school leadership team,” Coppersmith said. ”He brings with his appointment experience in transformative leadership, assessment, and a special interest and background in adult education. We are happy to have him on board.”
Before working at Williamsport Area School District, Reed was the director of the SciTech High School, a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) magnet school that partnered Harrisburg University of Science and Technology with the Harrisburg School District.
Prior to serving as a high school principal, Reed was a school counselor and a social studies teacher. While teaching and counseling, he also coached basketball and track and field.
A native of Pittsburgh, Reed earned a Master of Education and school counseling certification from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Clarion University. His school administrative certifications were awarded through Penn State. He is completing doctoral studies through Drexel University with a concentration in educational leadership.
