UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Catherine Harmonosky, associate professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering, has been named interim associate dean for undergraduate and graduate education in the College of Engineering.
She takes over for Renata Engel, who became the inaugural associate vice provost for online programs with Penn State Outreach and Online Education on June 1.
Amr Elnashai, Harold and Inge Marcus Dean of Engineering, said, "Catherine brings significant experience to the position and will provide strong and effective leadership of the college's residence and online undergraduate and graduate educational programs."
Harmonosky has been a Penn State faculty member since 1987.
She currently serves on the University's standing joint committee on tenure, and she previously represented the college on the University Faculty Senate.
Harmonosky's service to the college includes the academic integrity and diversity committees, as well as several advisory committees and task forces.
In the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, she served on promotion and tenure, scholarship and awards, undergraduate and graduate recruiting and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology committees.
Harmonosky's awards and honors include the Institute of Industrial Engineers' 1994 Outstanding Young Engineer of the Year Award, the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society's 1996 Outstanding Advising Award, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' 1993 Earl E. Walker Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award and the Penn State Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Alumni Society's 2010 Faculty Appreciation Award.
She received her bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Penn State and her master's and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering from Purdue University.
