Beaver varsity sport student-athletes receive post-season honors

Members of Penn State Beaver's softball and baseball team received post-season honors from the PSUAC and the USCAA.

Three members of the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team were honored by the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) at the end of the spring season. Sophomores Miranda Robson, Rochester, and Taylor Larson, Beaver, were named to the PSUAC Second Team All-Conference. Robson led the Lady Lions with 73 at-bats and 28 runs while hitting .384, including 11 stolen bases and eight RBIs. Larson hit .414 in 58 at-bats, scoring 21 runs and producing 12 RBIs. Freshman Jenna Petrucci, New Castle, was named PSUAC Honorable Mention and led the team with a .448 batting average in 58 at-bats. She also was team leader with three home runs and produced 20 RBIs. The women finished their season at 5-15.

The Beaver campus Nittany Lions baseball team finished the season at 12-9 in the PSUAC and 14-14 overall. Freshmen Matt Rose, Beaver, and Austin Logan, Beaver, were named to the PSUAC Second Team All-Conference. Rose had 71 at-bats, 25 hits, 13 RBIs, and hit .352 for the season. Logan led the team in at-bats with 84, had 19 runs, 30 hits, and 17 RBIs while hitting .357. Junior Tyler Thellman, Beaver Falls, received PSUAC Honorable Mention with 70 at-bats. He hit .257 with 18 hits and had 11 RBIs. Robson also received a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American Honorable Mention, as did senior baseball player Grant Scott, Sewickley, who hit .370 with one home run and ten RBIs in 54 at-bats. He led the team in put-outs with 117 and a fielding percentage of .983 with just two errors in the season. Sophomore baseball player Fran O’Connor, Freedom, was named to the USCAA All-Academic Team, an honor earned when a student maintains a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the academic year while competing in a sport(s).
