Smeal celebrates more than 1,300 class of 2014 graduates

About 1,300 members of the class of 2014 received their diplomas at the Penn State Smeal College of Business undergraduate commencement ceremony, held on Sunday, May 11, in the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

Alumnus Lou Grabowsky (1973, accounting), senior adviser of operations and former chief operating officer of Grant Thornton LLP, delivered the commencement address, talking to graduates about the components of good leadership.

“We are in desperate need of great leaders,” he said, and challenged students to use their education and gifts to “lead with greatness.”

Also on Sunday, the Integrated Master of Accounting (MAcc) program held a graduation ceremony in the Business Building atrium. About 65 students graduated in the Integrated MAcc program with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in accounting.

In addition, nearly 80 students graduated with a Penn State Smeal MBA and three students earned doctoral degrees. The Executive MBA Program will graduate about thirty students, who will celebrate their pre-commencement next month.

About Lou GrabowskyGrabowsky is the senior adviser of operations and former chief operating officer of Grant Thornton LLP, where he is responsible for the firm’s shared services operation in India. He has remained active with the Smeal College of Business, serving on the Accounting Advisory Board and as vice chair of the Smeal College Board of Visitors. He also was involved with the “For the Future” campaign, a University-wide fundraising effort that raised $2.158 billion.
