Jake Boyle Memorial Golf Tournment to be held in Meadville

Event honoring 2002 graduate set for June 1, 2

The Jake Boyle Memorial Golf Tournament, a fundraiser benefiting Penn State Behrend baseball that has been held in North Carolina since 2007, will host a local two-day golf event this summer.

The annual tournament began shortly after Boyle, a Cambridge Springs native and standout Behrend Lion, died following a battle with brain cancer that began in his junior year at the college. Boyle still holds three Behrend baseball records, for RBIs (188), runs scored (198) and home runs (35).

Boyle was working at Newell Rubbermaid in Huntersville, N.C., at the time of his death. He was a 2002 graduate of Penn State Behrend’s plastics engineering technology degree program.

The local tournament will be held Sunday, June 1, and Monday, June 2, at The Country Club in Meadville. Events include a kick-off picnic, long-drive demonstration by professional golf entertainer Tom Roskos, 18 holes of golf, lunch on the course and celebration dinner. The cost is $150 per golfer.

Sponsorship opportunities also are available. For additional information or to register, contact Al Gesler, associate director of development at Penn State Behrend, at 814-898-6475 or aug16@psu.edu, or tournament organizer Roger Schlosser at 814-763-2133 or vitaballboy@hotmail.com.
