Call for proposals issued for Diverse Literacies Conference

Eighth annual conference to be held Sept. 27

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Penn State Lehigh Valley, in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley Writing Project, is accepting proposals for the eighth annual Diverse Literacies Conference, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Bear Creek Resort in Macungie, Pa. The deadline for proposal submission is May 24.

This year’s conference theme is "Language as a Medium, a Toll and an Outcome." Tom Romano, a renowned writing scholar, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Romano's research encourages teachers to depart from the safety zone of narrative and exposition in order to explore multigenre writing.

Conference organizers are inviting proposals for presentations from a variety of backgrounds, including elementary teachers; reading, English as a second language and other specialists; secondary content area teachers; higher education faculty; adult education instructors; preservice teachers; and other professionals. Presenters can submit proposals for three types of presentations: Demonstration Workshop, Research Session or Graphic Display Session.

For more information or to submit a presentation proposal for this conference, visit www.diverseliteracies.org or contact Marisa Hockman at mlk239@psu.edu or by calling 302-381-7266.
