Blue & White Society's PSi(heart)U Week will emphasize campus spirit

April 03, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Blue & White Society will sponsor a weeklong celebration of Penn State pride from April 7 to 11.

Throughout the week, themed days will take place across campus. This campus and community event seeks to engage both students and alumni in the week leading up to Blue-White Weekend.

During the weeklong celebration, the Blue & White Society will partner with other organizations on campus — such as the Lion Ambassadors and the Student Programing Association (SPA) — to spread pride and spirit. The event also gives both students and alumni an opportunity to highlight organizations and individuals that made their Penn State experience so great.

“We hope that this spirited week gives every Penn Stater the opportunity to show their excitement for the coming weekend and show off some Nittany Lion pride as our alumni prepare to return to campus for our spring scrimmage and other events,” said Josh Kirwin, vice president of programming for the Blue & White Society.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff and all members of the Penn State community are invited and encouraged to participate. The official hashtag for the week will be #PSiheartU, and students and alumni can follow @BWS_PSU_UP on Twitter for live updates.

The schedule of events follows and will be published online at More information and details will be posted via social media.

The Blue & White Society is the student membership of the Penn State Alumni Association and is the largest registered student organization on campus. Its mission is to enhance student life at Penn State through diversified experiences with an emphasis on service to the community, civic leadership, tradition and outreach while establishing the foundation of a lifelong commitment to the University as members of the Alumni Association. Monday (April 7) — Wear Your Pride Day
Students spotted on campus by our volunteers sporting their favorite Penn State or Blue & White Society gear will be given a prize from Blue & White Society and the Penn State Alumni Association. Tuesday (April 8) — PSi(heart)U Day
Students will be able to take pictures in a photo booth, holding a white board that reads “PSi(heart)U Because …” This will give participants a chance to share why they love Penn State. We will also be accepting student and alumni submissions throughout the week via social media. Photos will be featured on the website, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Wednesday (April 9) — Old Main Open House
The Blue & White Society teams up with the Lion Ambassadors at Old Main Open House from 2 to 6 p.m. Blue & White Society members will serve cake and cupcakes and will organize an aerial photo on Old Main lawn taken from the Bell Tower. Participants interested in joining the aerial photo shoot should wear gear representing their favorite Penn State organization.

Thursday (April 10) — PSthankyoU Day
Cards will be provided to students who want to send a thank you note to someone who has made their Penn State experience worthwhile. A template will be posted on social media so alumni and students can send a thank you note at their convenience. Mike the Mailman will make a special appearance in the HUB-Robeson Center to help mail the letters. Later that day, in a coordinated effort with SPA, Penn State alum Mark DeRose and the Dreadnought Brigade will perform at 8 p.m. in Heritage Hall as part of the group’s Penn State tour.

Friday (April 11) — Blue-White Weekend Kickoff
Music, food and student performances will take over the HUB, with a special appearance by Coach James Franklin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a noon concert presented by SPA.
