February 05, 2014

Joel Harrison Septet, an ensemble that uses the techniques of classical composers to create modern chamber jazz, will perform Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

The performance is part of Music at Noon: The Logan Series and takes place at noon in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building. Admission is free and free reserved parking will be available in the Reed lot.

Joel Harrison, guitarist for the ensemble, combines influences from a variety of genres, including jazz, classical, country, rock and world music. Harrison was named a Guggenheim Fellow in 2010, and he is also a two-time winner of the Jazz Composers Alliance Composition Competition.

“It’s not often that music of such heft is delivered with such ease and pinpoint effectiveness,” JazzTimes writer Lloyd Sachs wrote in a review of Harrison’s work.

Music at Noon: The Logan Series receives major support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Kay Logan Trust, and receives additional funding from the Penn State Behrend Student Activity Fee, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, the Erie Arts Endowment of ArtsErie and Target.
