Presidential search update: Sept. 10, 2013

The search for the 18th President of Penn State continues on a positive trajectory. In partnership with executive search firm Isaacson, Miller nearly 400 individuals were contacted regarding the position as well as another 150 who were asked to suggest individuals who might be available for the position. This outreach included substantial numbers of women, underrepresented minorities, and leaders in the corporate and non-profit sector. The University Presidential Search and Screen Committee, along with representatives from the Trustee Presidential Selection Council, reviewed the lists of applicants, nominees, and individuals contacted and in scores of cases reviewed substantial material on individuals who indicated an interest in the position. Nan Crouter, Dean of the College of Health and Human Development and Chair of the University Presidential Search and Screen Committee, commented, "We are very excited with the many experienced and highly qualified individuals who have shown an interest in leading Penn State."

Following preliminary reviews of these individuals by the University Presidential Search and Screen Committee, Isaacson, Miller conducted in-depth interviews with people of interest from both traditional and non-traditional backgrounds who most closely matched the attributes and characteristics that are critical in the University's next president. The University Presidential Search and Screen Committee has reviewed, interviewed, and evaluated many candidates and is very pleased with the pool of individuals available. The credentials and information about a very strong pool of candidates have been sent forward for further consideration to the Trustee Presidential Selection Council and representatives from the University Presidential Search and Screen Committee.

Karen Peetz, former Board Chair and Chair of the Trustee Presidential Selection Council, participated in the candidate reviews of the University Presidential Search and Screen Committee and has indicated that, "It is clear to me that we have a pool that contains the person who will bring extraordinary credentials to the University as our next President."
