January 22, 2014

Girls Night Out Altoona Inc., an annual fundraising dinner, brings together breast cancer survivors, family, friends and supporters at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona to raise money and celebrate all things “pink.”

This past October, breast cancer survivor and Penn State Altoona employee Dana Chestney led a committee to raise more than $30,000 for breast cancer research at Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute at Girls Night Out.

This year funds will support the research of Craig Meyers, distinguished professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and his work with the AAV2 virus. Meyers has been investigating the AAV2 virus in various forms of breast cancer and spoke at Girls Night Out to thank attendees for their support in his work.

Chestney’s fundraising efforts over the past four years have brought more than $115,000 in support to Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute.
