Young People's Chorus of Erie to hold open auditions

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will audition potential new members for its chorus later this month.

YPC Erie membership is open to all youths ages 7-18 who demonstrate the ability to match pitch and have a genuine interest in singing. The chorus is divided into four choirs: Cantare is a treble choir for the youngest singers, Concert Chorus is a treble choir for girls and boys with unchanged voices, Young Men’s Chorus is an advanced choir for boys with changed voices and Chorale is the combination of Concert Chorus and Young Men’s Chorus.

Auditions will be held at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and First Church of the Covenant between Wednesday, Jan. 15, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. Prospective choristers are asked to bring a prepared song to sing, unaccompanied.

The audition schedule is listed below:

-- 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 15, Smith Chapel, Penn State Behrend-- 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 17, First Church of the Covenant, 250 W. Seventh St.-- 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 18, First Church of the Covenant, 250 W. Seventh St.-- 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22, Smith Chapel, Penn State Behrend

Auditions are by appointment only and can be made by calling the YPC Erie office at 814-898-6789.

YPC Erie’s 2014 season includes singing the national anthem at an Erie BayHawks game, singing with the Erie Philharmonic for Carmina Burana and the annual YPC Erie spring concert, which will be held May 3.
