Glee Club to perform Nov. 9

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Glee Club will present its annual fall concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in Schwab Auditorium. The program will feature the world premiere of "When Music Sounds" by Joseph Gregorio, commissioned by the Glee Club to celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2014. The Hi-Los, a small ensemble specializing in lighter entertainment, will also perform. The Glee Club is conducted by Christopher Kiver.

Tickets are $12 for the general public and $4 for students. Buy your tickets in advance for School of Music concerts in Eisenhower and Schwab auditoriums and save 40 percent off the price of admission. There is no limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased. Tickets are available at the Eisenhower Ticket Center (814-863-0255 or 800-ARTS-TIX) or online here. Penn State Songs

The Penn State Glee Club was founded in December 1888, and is Penn State's oldest student organization on campus. Since its first spring tour in March 1889, the Glee Club has performed throughout the United States and abroad, with recent tours to Wales, Trinidad and Tobago, France and New Zealand. In recent years, the Glee Club has sung at the National Presbyterian Church and National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. They have sung for state and regional conventions of the Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association (2007, 2013), the Intercollegiate Men's Choruses (2008), the National Association for Music Education (MENC, 2009) and the American Choral Directors Association (2010). Since 2005, the Glee Club has performed major choral works including Symphony no.2 in C minor (“Resurrection”) by Gustav Mahler, Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms, Symphony no. 9 in D minor by Ludwig van Beethoven and Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem.
