Penn State Excellence in Management program to begin in January

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State's Office of Human Resources is again partnering with Smeal College of Business' Executive Programs to offer the Penn State Excellence in Management program, designed for full-time Penn State employees in the role of manager, director or higher. 

Penn State Excellence in Management is scheduled to meet for six full-day sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 22 through Feb. 26 in the Keller Building. This is offered at no cost to University employees. 

The program will focus on skills and knowledge geared towards managing and leading a department or unit and budget. 

The following topics will be covered:

-- Creating visioning, direction and strategy-- Innovative, creative-problem solving-- Creating an environment of appropriate risk-taking-- Ethics and value based decision-making-- Setting and managing budgets-- Inculcating accountability-- Developing capabilities and people management-- Communicating effectively at all levels of the organization-- Leading changeIn order to register for the program, potential participants must answer the following questions in a response to Brynn Mifflin Rousselin, bmr15@psu.edu or 814-865-5907:

Does “manager” or above appear in your official Penn State job classification?Do you set vision and strategy for a unit?Do you manage a budget?Do you manage a unit or group of people?Have you been employed at Penn State for at least one year?
