UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- John Hauser (Pottstown, Pa.) claimed Penn State's first Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award of the season on Tuesday (Oct. 22), after turning in impressive performances in a number of events in Friday's season-opening win over West Virginia.

The senior competed in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and claimed wins in both races. Hauser set the McCoy Natatorium record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.14, which also is an NCAA provisional qualifying time.

In addition to his great performance in the 50 freestyle, the Pottstown native won the 100 freestyle race in impressive fashion, finishing in 44.39, nearly two seconds faster than the second place finisher. To top off his performance, Hauser was part of the 400 freestyle relay team that touched the wall first in a time of 3:01.79.

The honor marks the first time in the senior's career that he has garnered this recognition. Hauser become the first Nittany Lion on the men's team to win the award since Sean Grier grabbed the accolade on Jan. 29, 2013.

Hauser and the Blue and White travel to Buffalo for their first away meet of the season on Nov. 2 to face the Bison in a meet that is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
