Nittany Lion Inn honored as AAA Four Diamond Hotel for fifth consecutive year

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Nittany Lion Inn was once again honored as a AAA Four Diamond hotel. This marks the fifth consecutive year the Inn has achieved the rating.

“We work very hard every day to provide a high level of service,” said Tom Neely, general manager of the Nittany Lion Inn. “We are very proud of the fact we are a AAA Four Diamond property. It takes a lot of effort to provide that level of service and this is recognition of the efforts by our staff.”

Achieving and maintaining a AAA Four Diamond rating is a challenge. Properties go through an annual inspection, but are also subject to blind audits where people come and stay as guests and report back to the regional auditor.

Being a hotel with a student-based employment pool also presents unique opportunities.

“We get a lot of new associates on a regular basis, said Neely. “We have to make sure we have programs in place so the new people coming on are always able to provide that same high level of quality service. We want to maintain that ranking. It’s a daily effort.”

Besides the hard work of the staff at the Inn and the AAA Four Diamond rating, Neely believes there is something else that makes the property truly special.

“I think what makes this place so special is the strong association people have with the property and the University,” explained Neely. “I’ve had a great opportunity to have met a lot of regular guests and alumni during home football weekends who are true believers in what we do and continue to be very supportive of our efforts. It’s not just because it’s Penn State, but also because we make them part of the family. I’m very proud as an alum to be able to see people enjoy themselves here and associate the Nittany Lion Inn so deeply with their Penn State heritage.”

The Nittany Lion Inn is a Penn State landmark and often referred to as “Penn State’s Living Room.” The property was built in 1931 and is a member of the National Trust of Historic Hotels of America. For more information on the Nittany Lion Inn or to make a reservation, visit
