Lehigh Valley golf team ties for second at Penn College Invitational

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Penn State Lehigh Valley golf team continued to rally at the beginning of the season at the Penn College Invitational on Sept. 9. A tie for second place with Penn State Mont Alto bolstered the team’s confidence and kept the momentum going for head coach Brian Exton’s young program.

Sophomore Nathan Bloomfield fired an impressive round of 81 on the par 72 Challenge Course at White Deer Golf Course to lead the team. Junior Shane Rhodes shot an 86, while sophomore Ian Burke shot an 88 and junior James Burgess posted 91 to round out the team score. Sophomore Martin Dawson posted his second 96 in as many weeks to keep all players under the century mark.

"We are practicing well and playing consistently," said Exton after the match, "and I’m hopeful our players will see how that translates to success. It’s not always easy balancing the dual roles of a student-athlete," he added, "but these players are committed to the University in every way."
