Campus Workshop aimed at protecting children; caregivers urged to attend

Penn State DuBois, in collaboration with Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR), will host a free workshop for parents, teachers and caregivers, which will provide information and tactics for protecting children from abuse. Darkness to Light Stewards of Children is slated for 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Room 209 of the DEF Building at Penn State DuBois. A program from the Penn State Cares series, this workshop is open to anyone who would like to learn more about child and teen Internet use, sexting and how to protect children from sexual predators. It will also offer strategies for identifying warning signs and dealing with problems related to such activities. So far, more than 3,000 people in Centre County alone have participated in this program.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet Penn State athletes who will be on hand to represent the Penn State Athletes Take Action program. Light refreshments will be served.

To make this program possible, Penn State DuBois and the Cooperative Extension have partnered with the Centre County Women's Resource Center and Passages, member organizations of PCAR.
