Penn State Hershey a partner in organ donation initiative

One person can save the lives of up to eight others and improve the lives of many more through organ, eye and tissue donation.

With that in mind, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is proud to support the Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign. As a hospital partner in this initiative, the Medical Center is encouraging all staff to join with its partner organ donation organization, Gift of Life, in educating the community on the critical need for organ donation and providing opportunities for people to sign up as organ, eye and tissue donors.

With approximately 117,000 people in the United States waiting for organ transplants that will save their lives, the need for donors is stronger than ever. The clock is always counting down, and 18 of those who require transplants will die today. Pennsylvania alone has well more than 8,000 lives in need of a transplant if they are to continue. But many of them will be left unaided if the call to action goes unanswered.

Penn State Hershey is working with Gift of Life to help find and register new organ donor designations in central Pennsylvania and needs the support of staff and the community. Everyone has the opportunity to be one of the individuals who make these miracles happen.

Register today to become a donor at www.organdonor.gov and give someone a second chance at life.
