UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Extension will offer a Web-based seminar focusing on the Pennsylvania Farmland and Forest Land Assessment Act, Act 319, better known as "Clean & Green."
Scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, the 90-minute session will feature Doug Wolfgang, director of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Farmland Preservation, and Deb Crawford, Tioga County chief assessor.
Neal Fogle, Penn State Extension economic and community development educator, will present information about the purpose of Act 319 with regard to protection of agricultural lands in Pennsylvania.
"The Pennsylvania Farmland and Forest Land Assessment Act was authorized by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and allows land devoted to agricultural and forestland to be assessed at a value for that use rather than a fair market value," said Fogle.
"The intent of Act 319 is to encourage landowners to retain their land in agricultural, open space or forestland use by providing some real estate tax relief."
The webinar will provide an overview and history of the "Clean & Green Act," cover the major changes to the law, address future issues facing Clean & Green and offer a county perspective of implementation.
