Communications-specific job fairs offer opportunity for students

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Two communications-specific job fairs -- providing the chance for College of Communications students to meet with hundreds of potential employers and to learn about a similar number of internship opportunities -- take place in the next few weeks.

The 14th annual JobExpo.Comm(unications) will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22, in Alumni Hall at the HUB–Robeson Center. The on-campus event will host companies from all fields of communications, enabling students to meet with a variety of potential employers.

Fifty-five companies have already registered to attend JobExpo, which attracted more than 500 students last year. More than 580 companies and 5,000 students have attended the event in the past 13 years.

Along with the on-campus session, the College of Communications regularly conducts a job fair exclusively for Penn State communications students in New York City. That event, “Success in the City,” will be conducted from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 12, at Time Warner Center. Nearly 50 companies have already committed to participate in that event, which attracted 350 students last year.

Students from all majors in the College of Communications -- advertising/public relations, film-video, journalism, media studies and telecommunications -- are invited to meet with professionals to discuss potential employment and internships at the two job fairs. Students are encouraged to post resumes to the Comm Career Center at https://comm-psu-csm.symplicity.com and register prior to the events.

Student registration for JobExpo is free. Registration for “Success in the City” costs $25, which includes bus transportation to and from New York City the day of the event. In addition, the first 150 students to register for “Success in the City” receive lunch with the first 100 attending recruiters.Companies may register online to participate in both JobExpo and “Success in the City.” Registration for both events is free for recruiting companies, and it includes lunch for recruiters.
