Students can prepare for Spring Career Days with workshops, advice

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- It's not too soon for students to start preparing for Penn State's Spring Career Days, to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 20 and 21 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. More than 300 employers will attend, hiring for internship, full-time and co-op positions.

March 20 is the Business and Finance, Communications and Design, Human Services, Liberal Arts, and Sales and Marketing Career Day. March 21 is the Computer and Information Technology, Engineering, Health and Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Research Career Day.

Career Services is offering a series of workshops priort to the event to help students create a personalized plan to feel confident and prepared to attend.

Workshops will be held on the following dates in 103 Bank of America Career Services Center:

March 12:4 p.m. -- Marketing Your Liberal Arts DegreePresented by Liberal Arts & Career Services

5:15 p.m. -- After the Handshake: What to Say to Employers at the FairPresented by Target

March 14:4 p.m. -- Resume Tips for Technical MajorsPresented by Dick’s Sporting Goods  5:15 p.m. - Interviewing Tips for Technical MajorsPresented by Career Services

Also, HR professionals will be on hand on the second floor of the Career Services Center to review resumes and provide tips and advice during "Resumania" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 19.

Attending the career fair is an excellent way to network with a wide variety of companies. In preparing for the event, be sure to check out useful links at careerfairs.psu.edu/spring for information on what to do before, during and after the fair. These links are full of important advice such as what to wear, how to research employers attending the fair, and how to upload a resume online in advance so that chosen employers may view it ahead of time.

Students and employers may also participate in an online forum via LinkedIn and the "Penn State Career Connection" Group. The subgroup focused on "Career Fair Prep" allows students to ask questions and employers to offer tips for success.

For additional preparation help, students may visit Career Services Drop-in Counseling in the Bank of America Career Services Center, weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.
