EOPC FUNDS SUMMER PROGRAMS

Every summer, the Equal Opportunity Planning Committee co-sponsors and funds numerous programs across the University as part of Penn State's commitment to diversity. The list range from precollege programs for secondary students at Delaware County, York, and McKeesport Campuses and University Park's Colleges of Engineering and Education, to programs for current students, including diversity grants for underrepresented students in study abroad programs and the Applied Research Laboratories Open D.O.O.R. (Diversity Outreach Opportunities in Research) summer research program for undergraduate students from historically black colleges and universities (HCBU) and other schools with opportunities to conduct research in the applied sciences. Additional programs are funded in the fall. The program list is at: http://www.equity.psu.edu/eopc/programs02_03.html

For example, EOPC supports the Venture in Engineering Camp Tour (VEC-Tour), an annual day camp for high school girls coordinated by the Women in Engineering Program at Penn State, held late July this year. The purpose of VEC-Tour is to attract high school girls into engineering, address the under-representation of women in technology related careers and prepare girls to succeed through hands-on engineering skills workshops, career preparation, and active networking.
