Summer Sessions End With Record Enrollment

August 15, 2002

Summer classes ended Aug. 2 and a record 468 students attended the five sessions at Penn State New Kensington, according to Joanne Fitzsimmons, campus registrar. The total represents the largest number of summer students on the New Kensington campus with an increase of 49 students (11.7 percent) over last summer. Fitzsimmons attributed the increase to the numerous and varied class offerings at PSNK. "We put a lot of thought in the summer schedule," Fitzsimmons said. "Students come here from University Park, Altoona, Behrend and other Commonwealth College campuses because they like the variety of classes we offer." It is the third consecutive semester that PSNK has set a campus enrollment record. The 11 percent summer increase mirrors that of spring 2002 (927 students) and fall 2001 (986 students). Fall 2002 classes begin Aug. 27. For a list of academic programs, visit
