Dr. Gary W. Weber has been promoted to associate vice president for research and director of technology transfer in the Office of the Vice President for Research at Penn State. He had been serving as assistant vice president for research and director of technology transfer since joining the Penn State staff in January 2000. He had been senior vice president, science and technology, at PPG Industries where he
led all science and technology for the company, including five laboratories, serving automotive, chemical, fiberglass, coatings, pharmaceutical and architectural businesses.

"Gary has done an outstanding job in reorganizing and focusing the Intellectual Property Office and the Industrial Research Office while providing exceptional leadership to PENNTAP, Ben Franklin Technology Center, Small Business Development Center, Research Commercialization, and Innovation Park at Penn State," Dr. Eva J. Pell, vice president for
research, said. "He also has been instrumental in revising policies and procedures that have strengthened the Penn State Research Foundation."
