Workshop to Explore 'Communicating Across Cultures'

November 12, 2002

The Penn State chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers welcomes William Cruz to University Park to present "Communicating Across Cultures" tonight (Nov. 13) at 6 p.m. in 121 Sparks. His presentation brings to light the differences in nonverbal and verbal communication styles between Latino, Anglo, African Amercian, Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern cultures, and how these differences can cause the misperceptions and misinterpretations that lead to misunderstandings. Cruz has a master's degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University and works for Lucent Technologies. He is an inventor with three patents issued with the U.S. Patent Office on wireless technologies, and has served on the executive board of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers in New Jersey.
