Chaiken appointed as governor's representative to Board of Trustees

University Park, Pa. - Eugene B. Chaiken, chairman and CEO of Almo Corporation of Philadelphia, has been designated to serve as Governor Edward G. Rendell's non-voting representative to the Penn State Board of Trustees. The appointment became effective March 21, 2003.

Almo Corporation is one of the largest distributors of consumer electronics, major appliances, high-end kitchen appliances, outdoor cooking and living products and industrial wire and cable products throughout the United States.

A native of Philadelphia, Chaiken is a 1962 graduate of Penn State. He has been a member of the development council in the College of the Liberal Arts since 1999, as well as having been involved with various Penn State organizations: Beta Sigma Rho fraternity; Delphi Society; Androcles Society; Skull and Bones Society; Thespians; Mt. Nittany Society; Laurel Society; secretary/treasurer of the Inter-Fraternity Council; Alumni Association life member; president of Beta Sigma Rho alumni association; and Omicron Delta Kappa Society.

He is also actively involved in his community and serves as vice chairman of the board of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is a member of the board of directors of Bell Microproducts, Inc.

Chaiken's honors include the College of the Liberal Arts Alumni Fellow Award in 2003, honorary doctorate from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy in 1997, and the Gail Carter Award from the National Electronic Distributors Association in 1986.
