Mary 'Sunny' Engle, widow of Charles 'Rip' Engle, dies

Mary Weber "Sunny" Engle, the widow of former Penn State football coach Charles "Rip" Engle, passed away Sunday, April 13 at Brookline Village in State College. She was 94. Engle was a resident of State College since 1950, when her husband was named the Nittany Lions' 13th head football coach after a successful tenure at Brown. During his 16 seasons as head coach, Rip Engle earned a 104-48-4 record, winning three bowl games and three Lambert Trophies. Rip Engle passed away in State College on March 7, 1983.
