Women's volleyball earns Penn State team GPA award

The Penn State women's volleyball team was presented with the award for highest grade-point average among all Penn State teams in 2001-2002 at the recent 16th-annual academic achievement banquet at the Bryce Jordan Center. The event was held in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day. Sponsored by the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, the Student-Athlete Advisory Board and the Nittany Lion Club, a total of 279 awards were presented to 230 student-athletes for their academic accomplishments in 2001-2002. All 230 honorees earned a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the 2001-02 academic year -- an increase of 20 percent from the 2000-2001 total of 184.
