Area youth celebrate National Dance Week at Penn State Altoona

April 25, 2003

More than 170 area youth from Blair, Centre, Cambria and Somerset counties will help kick off National Dance Week on Sunday, April 27, for Penn State Altoona's First Annual Day of Dance. Young dancers ages 13 and up who are enrolled in area dance schools will attend workshops and classes in modern dance, jazz and ballet. Following the day's sessions, the students will present a "Movement Choir Performance" beginning at 4:15 p.m. in the Adler Athletic Complex. Movement Choir, which started in the early 1930s, is designed to create a community through the language of movement and unite people from different backgrounds. The event is co-sponsored by Penn State Altoona and Allied Motion, Penn State Altoona's resident dance company, supported in part by a grant made through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) program, a partnership between 13 regional arts organizations and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), a state agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance (PRAA).
