National youth sports program returns to McKeesport campus

For the fourth year in a row, Penn State McKeesport will host the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) on campus. The five-week program combines the promotion of athletic know-how and life skills. NYSP provides children of low-income families positive memories and useful skills. Penn State McKeesport personnel work to identify economically disadvantaged children who could most benefit from the safe haven and educational benefits of this program. Mandatory swimming participation along with baseball, softball, golf and soccer are offered at the summer camp. Last year, 250 children ages 12 to 16 participated on campus and received snacks, a hot meal, drug and alcohol education and life skills training.
