Veon addresses first baccalaureate graduates at commencement

June 05, 2003

State Rep. Michael Veon (D), District 14, served as the keynote speaker at the first Penn State Beaver baccalaureate degree commencement exercises held last month. Thirty baccalaureate degree candidates in the information sciences and technology (IST) and business programs were in attendance to receive their diplomas from Veon, Campus Executive Officer Gary B. Keefer, Advisory Board President John Kurgan, and Penn State Board of Trustees member Bill Steel. The IST and business programs were the first two baccalaureate degrees to be offered at Penn State Beaver. Veon's comments focused on boosting the local economy by fighting brain drain. More than 250 students, family, friends, faculty and staff attended the commencement ceremonies and the reception that followed.
