Teamsters local union approves agreement

Members of Teamsters Local Union 8 employed by Penn State have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the University to replace the current agreement, which expired June 30.

Teamsters Local Union 8 represents the bargaining unit consisting of approximately 2,300 technical-service employees at University locations throughout the commonwealth.

Kim Yearick, president of Teamsters Local Union 8, announced the decision after the count of mail ballots by union members to accept or reject the offer made by the University.

The new agreement is retroactive to July 1, and covers the three-year period through June 30, 2006. It provides 2 percent wage increases effective with each of the first two years of the agreement, and a 3 percent wage increase effective July 1, 2005.

Other negotiated items of the agreement include parking rates and certain modifications in working conditions.

University President Graham B. Spanier said that he was pleased that the negotiations had been concluded successfully with the acceptance of the agreement by the union membership.
