Move-in days to cause mid-week traffic, parking congestion

Due to changes to the University schedule for fall semester 2003 and the occurrence of Penn State's first home football game on Aug. 30, this year's student arrival will be held during the workweek rather than on a weekend. The dates of student arrival are Aug. 28 and 29. Because student arrival will occur when the University workforce is on campus, there will be considerable roadway and parking lot congestion. The Offices of Housing and Food Services, the University Police and Transportation Services have been working to coordinate traffic movements and parking locations for faculty, staff, students and the families of students.

The University asks that faculty and staff that usually park in the vicinity of residence halls, particularly the HUB Deck, Green E, Green C and Green D, select an alternate parking location such as Stadium West and Jordan East (Lot 44); rideshare on these days; or use bus transportation to get to work.

The Campus Bus Service (Loop and Link) will begin operating the full fall service beginning at 4:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, to assist in movement of faculty, staff, students and visitors around campus. Frequency of service between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. is every six to eight minutes.

Direct questions regarding the upcoming arrival weekend or available transportation alternatives to the Parking Office at (814) 865-1436.
