Transportation Services, CATA introduce new bus route, color-coded system

University Park, Pa. -- Students, faculty and staff who use the bus system to get to and around campus will notice a few changes this year. Beginning today (Aug. 27), a new bus route will service campus and a new color-coded bus naming system will be in place. Penn State's Transportation Services and the Center Area Transportation Authority designed the new color-coded system to allow customers to easily navigate area public transportation.

The new route, called the Green Link, will take passengers to and from the Bryce Jordan Center parking lots via Curtin Road as far as Allen Road. It will then travel Park Avenue back to the Stadium West lot to pick up more riders. It will operate east to west on Curtin from 7 a.m. to noon, and then will reverse direction to address the needs of commuters returning to the commuter lot from noon to 6 p.m.

The Blue Loop, formerly known as the Campus Loop, and the Red Link, formerly known as the Link, begin operations at 4:45 a.m. The White Loop, formerly known as the Town Loop, will no longer enter the Jordan Center parking lot, but will stop on University Drive adjacent to the Bryce Jordan Center. Three bus stop locations have been eliminated from the White Loop route, including Beaver Avenue at Fraser Street, Beaver Avenue at Sowers Street and College Avenue in front of Meridian Apartments. Representatives from Transportation Services will be on hand from 4:45 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the commuter lot bus shelters to answer questions. Patrons can expect to see color-coded bus postings at their stops in the near future.
