Penn State Beaver faculty member receives $1.2 million grant

Kay Wijekumar, assistant professor of information sciences and technology at Penn State Beaver, has received a three-year grant for nearly $1.2 million from the U.S. Department of Education for a project on "Intelligent Tutoring Using the Structure Strategy to Improve Reading Comprehension of Middle School Students." Also participating in the work are Bonnie Meyer, professor of education at Penn State's University Park campus, and Wendy Middlemiss, assistant professor of health and human development at Penn State Shenango. Computer systems that will be developed with support from the grant will be tested in the Quaker Valley Area School District.
