'Nittany' Lyons enters Penn State family

Tampa Bay, Fla. -- Christian and Lesi Lyons are not Penn State alumni, but they might as well be. They both grew up in western Pennsylvania, and were accepted to Penn State upon their high school graduations in 1992. Both joined the Air Force instead, but that didn't diminish their love of all things Penn State.

In fact, the connection to Penn State followed Christian into the military.

"Because of my last name and my Pennsylvania background, I often drew the nickname 'Nittany' in the Air Force," said Christian Lyons.

The Lyons family now lives near Tampa Bay, Fla., but they still bleed Blue and White. As a testament to their loyalty, they named their newborn son Andrew Nittany Lyons when he came into the world Sept. 7.

"The name definitely gives our son a huge connection to his roots, and a prestigious identity," said Christian Lyons.
