Area schoolteachers to complete ESL certificate program

Penn State Harrisburg's English as a Second Language certification program for the region's schoolteachers is about to "graduate" its first 80 students from York, Lancaster, and Harrisburg. "Demand for the certification program has been remarkable," said Davida Irving, director of the program housed in the college's Center for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning. "We are filling up beyond the funded cohorts."
The 12-credit certification program, which has also become an elective ingredient in the Penn State Harrisburg master's degree program in teaching and curriculum, began less than a year ago when the Pennsylvania Department of Education approved the college as a provider of the graduate-level offering.
