Award-winning faculty honored at Advisory Board meeting

Three award-winning faculty members were honored by the Penn State Beaver Advisory Board on Jan. 7 at the Board's annual dinner meeting. Chris Wu, professor of mathematics, received the Advisory Board's Excellence in Research Award for his continued scholarship in the field of mathematics. JoAnn Chirico, instructor in sociology, was the recipient of the Board's Excellence in Service Award in honor of the development of her student community service-learning projects. Karen Barr, instructor in business, received the Excellence in Teaching Award for her outstanding teaching in and out of the classroom. John Kurgan, senior vice president of Michael Baker, Jr. Inc. and president of the Penn State Beaver Advisory Board, introduced each faculty member and invited them to provide remarks and background information about themselves and their work. Thirty members of the Advisory Board attended the meeting, one of five Board meetings held throughout the academic year.
