University Park Ensemble to perform play about acquaintance rape

University Park, Pa. -- "The Date," a play about relationships, sex and violence, will be presented by the University Park Ensemble on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in the HUB Auditorium. There is no charge.

The play addresses the timely topic of acquaintance rape. It follows two college students as they begin to date and then explores the gray and awkward areas of their sexual communications. It's an ambiguous sexual situation involving an acquaintance rape and a classic case of "she said, he said."

The characters share their fears and frustration and discuss issues such as the contradictory messages sent by verbal statements and body language. They ask questions like how far should they go, did she mean yes or no, and how do they feel about what happened.
