The 2004 recipients of Penn State McKeesport's John W. Beatty Memorial Scholarship are Dontria Brawner and Lorraine Levitsky. The scholarship is awarded to third semester students who are currently enrolled at Penn State McKeesport, have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, who have demonstrated leadership abilities, and are involved in campus activities and organizations.
Brawner serves as a resident assistant at Penn State McKeesport. She has been active in the Peer Leadership Council sponsored by the Center for Academic & Career Excellence (ACE) program. In addition, she participated in the Peer Leadership Council/Gospel Choir Thanksgiving Food Drive that benefited residents of the Light of Life Shelter in Pittsburgh.
Levitsky is president of the Residence Hall Council and served as the treasurer in the past. She has participated in the McKeesport Holiday Parade and Breakfast with Santa, an event for local children sponsored by the Penn State McKeesport Alumni Society.
Beatty, also know as "Dean Beatty" to thousands of Penn State McKeesport alumni, worked at the campus for twenty-seven years. He was the dean of student affairs for most of those years and was a friend and mentor to many.
