Astronomer shares NASA grant to model Earth-like planets

NASA's Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) Science Program awarded a grant of nearly $250,000 to Darren Williams, assistant professor of physics and astronomy at Penn State Erie, and Eric Gaidos, assistant professor of geobiology at the University of Hawaii, to conduct a three-year study that will investigate extreme seasonality on hypothetical Earth-like planets outside our solar system. The NASA TPF grant follows a recently completed three-year study by Williams and a Penn State colleague, David Pollard, titled "Extraordinary Climates of Earth-like Planets," funded by the National Science Foundation's Life in Extreme Environments program.
