Next phase of Pollock Road reconstruction to begin over spring break

University Park, Pa. -- The intersection of Burrowes and Pollock roads on the University Park campus will be closed for nine days over spring break, and additional enhancements to Pollock Road will require a partial closure of the road on the west-central side of campus through mid-August.

This work is part of the implementation of the campus utility master plan. Since these utility upgrades require roadway and sidewalk reconstruction, the University is taking the opportunity to simultaneously improve Pollock Road according to the goals of the campus master plan and intermodal transportation plan.

The intersection closure is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, March 5, and will reopen at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 14. Fraser Road will be opened to two-way traffic to provide alternate access to central campus during construction.

The closure of the intersection is needed to allow the Office of Physical Plant to install and replace utility infrastructure at the intersection and in the immediate area. The project will include installation of a new high-pressure steam line, two 24-inch chilled-water lines and a telecommunication duct bank. In addition the project will replace two aging water lines.

Pedestrian/ADA access will be maintained on the west side of Burrowes Road and on the south side of Pollock Road. Alternate walkways will be installed if needed to allow safe passage. In addition, Brown A parking lot will be accessible from Pollock Road and from Burrowes Road.

After spring break, Burrowes Road will return to normal. However, construction on Pollock Road will continue until the middle of August from the Burrowes Road intersection to the Pattee mall. Access to the Old Main parking lot will be from the eastern end of Pollock Road.

Construction updates for this project can be found in the news section of http://www.opp.psu.edu/const/index.html
