Senior Class Gift Committee applications due by April 9

University Park, Pa. -- Since 1861, virtually every Penn State graduating class has left a lasting mark on the University Park campus through senior class gifts.

Well-known past gifts include the Old Main Bell Tower (1904), the Nittany Lion Shrine (1940) and the HUB aquariums (1999). This year's gift is the forthcoming Willard Plaza. Additionally, many classes have endowed scholarships, and the Class of 1996 established the Elm Tree Endowment to provide continuous financial support to replant elm trees throughout campus.

Regardless of what their Penn State experiences have been, most students have been touched in some fashion by a past senior class gift. The 2004 Senior Class Gift Campaign Committee invites students to get involved in next year's campaign by applying for committee chair positions.

The Senior Class Gift Committee is composed of an overall chair, five committee chairs, and an unspecified number of general committee members. Applications for each of the chair positions are due on Friday, April 9, by 5 p.m., and applications for the general committee will be available in the fall semester. Students are encouraged to apply for as many positions as interest them. The Senior Class Gift Campaign Committee is a very dynamic organization, and there are often numerous opportunities for innovation.

It is not essential to choose one committee over another. The committee expects that most applicants will not know exactly what committee they are most interested in and will be able to learn more through the interview process. Applicants will be asked to attend an interview after review of the applications.

Applications are available at 17 Old Main, the HUB-Robeson Center information desk or via the 2004 Senior Class Gift Web site at http://www.seniorclassgift.psu.edu
