Snyder named associate dean for technology development

Alan Snyder was named associate dean for technology development in the College of Medicine, Hershey Medical Center.

Snyder, who has served as director of the Office of Technology Development in the College of Medicine since 2002, has developed a strong foundation for technology transfer, led efforts to educate faculty and staff, developed principles of constructive involvement with industry and engaged regional and statewide government and economic development organizations. As associate dean, Snyder will expand technology development capabilities, take discoveries to the marketplace, continue to build strategic partnerships and bring attention to the region's research infrastructure.

Snyder earned both his bachelor's degree in engineering science and his doctorate in bioengineering at Penn State. In 1987, he joined the Penn State faculty with joint appointments in the departments of surgery and bioengineering.

Snyder's is one of several new appointments in the overall reorganization of research administration at the medical center. Michael Verderame, associate professor of medicine and assistant professor of microbiology and immunology, was appointed associate dean for graduate studies. James Herman, Hershey Foods Corp. professor and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, was named associate dean for primary care and primary care research. Kathryn Kaylor was named director of the Office of Research Affairs and Ernest Johnson was appointed director of research development.
