Voter registration deadlines approaching; students encouraged to register

University Park, Pa. -- With the upcoming election quickly approaching, the University reminds all students that the last day to register to vote in Pennsylvania is Oct. 4, and Election Day is Nov. 2. Penn State encourages all its eligible students to participate in the upcoming election and to become active in civic engagement during their years at Penn State and beyond. Voting is each citizen's right and a way to ensure each voice is heard. Following are some helpful links to facilitate the registration and voting process:

Voter Registration
Students can find voter registration forms in the HUB-Robeson Center or they can find links to a government registration site at the P.S. U Vote site at http://psuvote.ist.psu.edu/

P.S. U Vote is a non-partisan, student-led organization established in 2003 with the goal of encouraging at least 80 percent of the student body to register and vote. Their site provides educational information about the voting process, candidates and issues.

Students living on campus also should be on the lookout for registration forms that will be delivered to their residence hall mailboxes.

College voting guide

The Department of State, which administers elections in Pennsylvania, has prepared a guide, as well as a list of frequently asked questions, to clarify any confusion students may have regarding the voting process. To access a PDF version of the guide, visit http://www.dos.state.pa.us/voting/lib/voting/guide/student_voting_guide.pdf

The guide provides information about the qualifications for becoming eligible to vote in Pennsylvania, the voter registration options and methods available, and the process for casting votes, including voting at the polls on Election Day or voting by absentee ballot.
