WPSX-TV programming highlights

Tuesday, Sept. 28
-- 7 p.m.: "To the Best of My Knowledge." Women in prison is the topic of the next edition of "To the Best of My Knowledge," Penn State President Graham B. Spanier's live monthly call-in show airing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, on both WPSU-FM and WPSX-TV. Spanier's guests are Shirley Moore, the superintendent of the Women's State Correctional Institution at Muncy, and Greg Smith, a former attorney and current executive director of Transitional Living Centers of Williamsport.

-- 8 p.m.: "NOVA: Origins. Back to the Beginning/Where Are the Aliens?" Who would have predicted that a hot spot left over from the Big Bang would eventually lead to Earth, the cosmos -- and to mankind? NOVA covers all the exciting steps in between in this four-part miniseries about the beginnings of Earth, life and the universe. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, is host.

Wednesday, Sept. 29
-- 8 p.m.: "NOVA: Origins. Back to the Beginning/Where Are the Aliens?" This is part two of the miniseries described above.

Thursday, Sept. 30
-- 9 p.m.: "Debates 2004: A NewsHour Special Report -- Presidential Debate." Jim Lehrer of The NewsHour moderates this first of three presidential debates from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.

Friday, Oct. 1
-- 10 p.m.: "The Journal Editorial Report." Members of The Wall Street Journal editorial board share their insights and information with public television viewers as its contributors discuss current issues and events in this new, weekly news and discussion program.

Saturday, Oct. 2
-- 10 p.m.: "Soundstage -- Yes." The longest-lasting and the most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, the band Yes comes together with Rick Wakeman, Jon Anderson, Steve Howe and Chris Squire celebrating their 35th year together. Captured at the Tsongas arena in Massachusetts, this concert is on the grand scale of past years with new stage designs by artist Roger Dean. The show opens with the band entering the arena to Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite." The band also performs classics such as "Going for the One," "Your Move/All Good People" and "Yours is No Disgrace."

Sunday, Oct. 3
-- 9 p.m.: "Mystery! -- Death in Holy Orders." When a young seminary student is smothered to death, Commander Adam Dalgliesh is summoned to a scenic coastal college where he reveals an unholy litany of sinister motives lurking beneath the surface of piety and penance.
