Men's and women's soccer teams each rank in nation's top five this week

University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State men's and women's soccer teams are both currently ranked in the nation's top 5, as released in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, making it the only school with both programs ranked in the top 5 and one of only two schools with both programs ranked in the top 10.

The men's team is ranked No. 3 heading into this weekend's action, while the women's team is ranked at No. 5.

The men's team jumped up to No. 3 after defeating two top 25 opponents over the weekend at the Golden Hurricane Classic. Penn State currently owns the nation's longest unbeaten streak of 12 games, dating back to last season. The Nittany Lions hope to to "Jam the Jeff" on Friday night, Oct. 1 for their much-anticipated meeting with 2004 NCAA champion and current No. 6 Indiana. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.

The Penn State women's team has been ranked in the top 5 all season. The Lions travel to No. 13 Michigan and Michigan State this weekend and are 7-1-1 on the season after losing their opener at now No. 3 Washington, 2-1, back in August. Penn State is 3-0 in conference play and is in the hunt for its seventh straight Big Ten title this season.

The only other school that can boast having both its men's and women's programs in the NSCAA's top 10 is California. Both teams are ranked No. 10 this week.
