Penn State's public TV station, WPSX-TV, Channel 3, is seeking volunteers with camcorders to help in the production of the next installment of its "Our Town" series. The volunteers are needed for this coming Saturday, Oct. 16.
"Our Town Take 2: Altoona" will be a video scrapbook of the people, places and happenings of the Altoona area as seen through the eyes of its residents. The first "Our Town: Altoona" was produced in January of 1997. The project is similar to the "day-in-the-life" photographic books where residents with still cameras shoot photos on a given day and the pictures are published in a book.
WPSX-TV provides one hour of blank videotape for each volunteer in the format of their choice. There are no restrictions as to age or experience ⦠just a willingness to participate in the project. Following is some basic information about the project:
What: A one-hour video scrapbook of the people, places and happenings of the Altoona, Pa., area as seen through the eyes of its residents.
Who: Between 20 and 25 area residents with their personal camcorders. WPSX-TV provides one hour of blank videotape for each volunteer in the format of their choice. There are no restrictions as to age or experience and no cost to participate.
When: The taping date is set for Saturday, Oct. 16. The program will be broadcast in December during the station's December on-air membership campaign. A special premiere preview for volunteers and their guests, and other invited guests, will be held in Altoona about a week before the program's broadcast on Channel 3.
Why: The "Our Town" project was developed in an effort to involve the communities and their residents with WPSX-TV. "Our Town: Altoona" will be the 32nd production in the series and the first with the "Take 2" theme. Previous programs have showcased Bedford, Bellefonte, Bradford, Johnstown, Huntingdon, Indiana, DuBois, Ridgway, St. Marys, Lewistown, Lock Haven, Warren, Punxsutawney, Clearfield, and Olean, N.Y.
